If you're like me, you snack while working at your computer.
Maybe it's a sandwich, some cookies, or a glass of ginger
ale. It's a bad thing to do, I know, and you've probably learned
that, too. I always keep the drink on a different table, behind
me; but the food, well, I'm not so good with that. Those crumbs
find their way down into my keyboard; the ketchup leaks out
from my hamburger; the keys stick, and boy, I hate when that
happens.
So, this is what I do every once in a while... I wash my
keyboard. I disconnect the cable and take it to the kitchen
sink. I turn it upside down and shake it a little to dump
those crumbs. You can pick up a can of compressed gas from
a place like Staples ($5.95) and blow them out, but the upside
down shaking thing is free, and it's always done the trick
for me. I also wash it in warm running water with a sponge
to get rid of those ketchup stains. Then, I suspend it upside
down, and let it air dry; sometimes, though, I'll use my daughter's
hair dryer to speed it along.
Yep, you can actually do that. It won't hurt your keyboard
at all. Don't get frustrated by keys that stick...clean and
wash it.
One last thing, Readers... Please remember that a keyboard
is a piece of electronics. Shocks can result when water
and electricity meet. When we say dry, we really mean
really dry. Be Careful! |
